Categories of cases ordinarily undertaken, and eligibility criteria for availing free legal assistance from Kartavyam’s Legal Aid Cell.
Types of cases we undertake
The following categories of cases may ordinarily be taken up by Kartavyam’s Legal Aid Cell.
Offences against sex workers
Offences against transgender persons
Environmental disputes & regulatory violations
Love jihad related cases
Note: The above list is indicative and not exhaustive. Kartavyam may take up additional categories of cases based upon social need and institutional assessment.
Who can avail free legal aid
Below Poverty Line / Low income
Persons belonging to the BPL category or having an annual income of ₹2,50,000 or less.
Socially & economically deprived sections
Women, disabled persons & mental illness
Women, disabled persons & mental illness
Women within the prescribed income bracket, disabled persons, and individuals suffering from mental illness, subject to verification and institutional discretion.
Victims & children
Victims of human trafficking, forced labour, violence, mass disasters, hate crimes, and environmental catastrophes, and children below 18 years of age.
Ex-servicemen
Former members of the Indian armed forces are eligible for free legal assistance from Kartavyam.
